Melbourne Beach is Brevard County’s oldest beach community, founded in 1883, and may also be the oldest beach community in the country. Recent scientific evidence shows that Ponce de Leon, the famed explorer, first set foot in Melbourne Beach, further south than originally thought. This idyllic beachside community is located on the barrier island between the Indian River Lagoon and Atlantic Ocean. Melbourne Beach is quiet, and stretches along miles of beach to the jetty of Sebastian Inlet, a famed fishing and surfing spot in the county.

The sole school in Melbourne Beach, Gemini Elementary, is outstanding and has won many awards for its curriculum. Many public beaches dot the strand of this community, and the public Spessard Holland Golf Course offers amazing river views as you play. Melbourne Beach hosts many community events throughout the year in Rykeman Park, including Founders Day which brings together many residents to celebrate the town’s establishment and partake in fun activities for people of all ages.

Turtle nesting occurs from May to October, which offers residents and visitors a chance to peek inside the world of these threatened and endangered creatures. If you are looking for a break from the hustle and bustle, Melbourne Beach is the place for you.
